The focus of the work of IPMA is to extend the work of its National Associations at the national level into the international level. Currently IPMA comprises over thirty National Associations representing approximately 20,000 members primarily in Europe but also in Africa and Asia. They promote project management professionalism under specific cultural requirements, in all types of projects. Moreover, institutional contacts to National Associations in North America, Australia and South Africa ensure a true global dimension to the work of IPMA. IPMA is governed by a Council of Delegates which comprises one representative from each of its Member (National) Associations. They meet once or twice a year and act as a general assembly and steering committee for IPMA. Their principle functions are to decide on constitution, approve biennial plans and accounts, elect officers and appoint auditors. The operational management of IPMA is carried out by an Executive Board of seven officers who are nominated and elected for a two year period by the Council from the Boards of the National Associations. They serve the Council by expediting action and supervising the working committees and major projects, as well as preparing plans, budgets and reports. Day to day administration is undertaken by a Secretariat office within the guidelines set by the Board. Activities: Certification – an international certification programme has been developed, taking the best practice of its members, to achieve an internationally recognised certification that is accepted in all member countries. There are 4 levels of certification te be achieved. Conferences – a world congress is held every two years in a member country. World expert academics and practitioners present state of the art papers, host workshops and panel discussions, on wide ranging project management themes. Expert seminars - smaller scale gatherings of experts to debate and present on a specific aspect of project management, to a very in depth degree. Training courses – international training courses dealing with such topics as multi-cultural project management, the pan-European project manager. Research - formalised academic research, meetings, workshops and conferences with a PM Research database to reference the work. Global Forum – IPMA is an influential participant in the Global Project Management Forum and speaks on behalf of its members. Publications – a quarterly Newsletter is sent to all members, an International Journal of Project Management is published bi-monthly and the proceedings of world congresses and other conferences are available on request. Other relationships - liaisons to companies with regional, national and international importance have been built up and steadily maintained. Close and interchanging relations are maintained to universities, high schools, business schools as well as to Standards bodies such as ISO, DIN, and BSI. |
